Why The Original Dave’s Cosmic Sub Franchise?
We believe that ours is the world’s coolest sub sandwich franchise opportunity available today. Dave spent ten years enjoying the local music scene in Mill Valley, the fashionable suburb outside San Francisco. An accomplished musician and fan of rock ‘n roll for years he knew that combining affordable good food and the rock ‘n roll theme would work. Then by creating a unique combination of the finest meat choices and Dave’s own patented sauce, the “sub that sells itself” was born.
What started in 1997 in a tiny shop decorated with rock and roll relics is now bursting out in a big way. Since opening the original Dave's Cosmic Subs shop on March 5, 1997, in Chagrin Falls, Ohio, David R. Lombardy, founder and president, has opened additional shops in the Cleveland area and Atlanta, Georgia. Every store is designed with rock-n-roll memorabilia and of course the 60’s & 70’s sounds that seep from the top of the line sound system complete the scene. Dave’s Cosmic Subculture represents the best and the one-of-a-kind time in our world when people promoted love, truth and sharing in ways never seen before or since.
What Can I expect from The Original Dave ’s Cosmic Subs Franchise?
- A Business. A franchise contract is a legal document between the franchisor and the franchisee where the franchisor agrees to allow the franchisee to utilize the name, logo, products, services, and the methodologies of the franchisor’s business.
- Product/Products. Development of new products of highest quality.
- Services. Our staff is available to assist you with questions that may arise in the day to day operations of your shop.
- Advertising/Promotion. Although we do not currently offer national or regional advertising, we do share samples of promotions that other shops are using.
- Quality Control Methods. Our staff will periodically visit your store to make sure your customers are receiving the same consistency and quality as is expected of a Dave’s franchise.
- Ongoing training. Our franchisees will receive training assistance from us from the grand opening throughout the remainder of their career.
- Group pricing. Volume allows us to negotiate better pricing than an individual store may be able to get. This keeps your costs down and puts more money in your pocket.
How much is the initial franchise fee?
The franchise fee is $20,000 per location for a 10 year term.
What are the royalty fees?
6% of gross sales
Are there other cash requirements, if so, how much are they?
There are equipment costs, location build-out costs, start-up costs and operating capital reserves. The degree of build-out required, the equipment needed and specifications required by us all impact the cost. Once a location has been determined, our operations staff can help identify cost items to you. Estimated start up could be estimated between $150,000 and $250,000. Other expenses would include utility deposits, phones, rent, inventory, payroll and any other items that may be specific to your location.
What does it take to qualify?
$50,000 Liquid Assets; $200,000 Net Worth; Ability to obtain financing if necessary.
What amount of sales can I expect from My Dave’s Cosmic Sub Shop?
The Federal Trade Commission has specific regulations which restrict any franchisor from projecting potential revenues for any franchisee. Obviously, your success will be affected by many variables. These variables would include the business location itself, the demographics, the effectiveness and quality of your advertising , the experience, motivation, determination and competency of the management, to name a few.
What profits can I expect?
Again, the FTC restricts us from predicting profits. Your profits will be based on your ability to manage, your dedication to your business and the quality of the product you serve.
Who negotiates the lease?
Dave’s does not help with lease negotiations but we do recommend professional agencies that may assist you with this. It is recommended that you have your lease or any other documents reviewed by your business advisor.
Are multiple franchise locations allowed?
The number of franchises you own is dependent on your own success and your ability to prove yourself as a quality operator.
Do I need experience in the food business to succeed as a Dave’s franchise owner?
Previous restaurant experience would be helpful but not necessary. A business background would also be helpful but is not necessary. You will receive extensive hands-on training as well as follow-up and refresher training over the years.
What is the length of time does it take for the build-out a Dave’s location?
Based on the average location, local contractors, lease negotiations, etc. the average length of time is 90 – 120 days.
